Allin Foulkrod Featured in Triangle Business Journal
Allin Foulkrod began attending events all the way back in 1988 when he was a senior at Raleigh’s Broughton High School.
As the first-ever North Carolina-based president of DECA, a national student group that aims to develop entrepreneurs, he was called upon to speak at events all over the country. It wasn’t long, explains Foulkrod, now 45, before he was lumping those occasions into winners and duds.

Creative Visions awarded 2009 Esprit Award- Best Technical Production
Creative Visions was awarded the 2009 Esprit Award for Best Technical Production by the International Special Event Society (ISES) for our work on the Grand Opening of the RBC Plaza in downtown Raleigh.
The theme of the event was "Our Skyline's Newest Star". The client's goal was to create a night that would be the talk of the town. With the grand opening of the tallest building in Raleigh, the RBC Plaza became the star of the cityscape and the star of the evening. With this in mind and the client's theme, the team designed an event that would introduce the Plaza to the city with style and grace.
The production team worked tirelessly to coordinate the concepts into a cohesive and well executed event. Entertainment and the menu were key components that figured heavily into the initial design presentation. It was important to the client to offer the guests an interactive and engrossing entertainment experience without overpowering the party and hindering the mix and mingle desire of the corporate executives. A cirque theme was chosen and a entertainment troupe was hired to create a one of a kind presentation. Guests experienced multiple entertainment elements including costumed performers mixed in with the crowd as well as onstage performances. The goal was to continually entice the guest to discover what was "around the next corner. "
A difficulty in this project was the venue selected by the client. They had decided on a large tent on the street that would require the city to close a main street for no less than 7 days. After meeting with the event planner and the city, it was suggested we use the vacant 17th floor. After multiple site visits and meetings it was decided that would be the new venue. It provided a wonderful view of the city and it was organic to the project. What better way to show off a new building than from near the top and inside of that building? The next challenge was to use the space well and to transform the raw shell into an elegant black tie gala.
Specific technical responsibilities included creating a dynamic and vibrant lighting environment, providing sound reinforcement for a presentation, distributing video content to screens throughout the event, installing scenic and décor elements to fill an otherwise empty space, provide banquet and catering equipment, and support the entertainment acts.
On an event of this size the event support services played a crucial role in the success of the evening. The team worked to create a security and communication plan, traffic, valet and parking plans and a strategy to efficiently move 500 guests up 17 floors to the main event space.
Through the combined efforts of the event production staff, design team, client teams, creative and innovative catering staff, florist, supportive rental equipment vendors, and photographer, the RBC Plaza Grand Opening was a success in the eyes of the clients and their guests. But as important, the event was a moment of pride in the collective eyes of its much fulfilled and very tired production team.
